I might have wasted money during our marriage, when we refinanced they were paid, now we're divorcing and its come up that the money was wasted and my spouse wants it to be judged against me in settlement,is it her burden of proof to show it was wasted or my burden to show where it went?I dont remember spending that money, does that matter? She's going to show bills with nothing to show for them and I dont know what to do.We live in Md. and were married 161/2 yrs.Whats going to effect this?

Don't know much about Md. law, however do know that marriage is a partnership. What is considered waste? Going out to eat? buying a new dress when it really isn't needed? Going on a vacation you really couldn't afford? Buying a new car when the old one was running okay?

I suggest you get yourself an attorney (may be considered a waste of money), to go over your legal questions/problems. This is not a question that should be left to the majority vote. Just because the majority thinks that it is her burden does not make it so.

Basically its always a good idea to keep records (extensive records) of large purchases. However, if she has no records either, then the situation becomes a "he said/she said" situation. Be honest. Just tell the judge that you honestly have no recollection of spending that money. Odds are the money went to odds and ends here and there for the BOTH of you. You were married, the judgement should not (and most likely won't) rest on you alone for the lump sum.

If at all possible, be reconciled. Learn God's way of living and doing, and you will have a happy life together. If you divorce one, the next may not necessarily better.

In the Beginning God created heavens and earth.
God gives you air to breathe and sunshine to enjoy.
God gives you water to drink and food to eat.
God gives you a wonderful body and sound mind, to live.
God loves you, and you are precious to Him.
Son of God died on the Cross to save us from condemnation.
Jesus’ love is boundless and everlasting.
We have the hope of Heaven through Jesus.
Life therefore has fantastic and glorious future!
(Digestion of above can even prevent depression and suicide attempt.)

You're in a marriage, money's both of yours, you don't have to justify where each and every cent went. It doesn't matter who made the money, who spent it or where.
