It's not really the size, but rather the design of a pool and it's intended use (exersise or playing). A pool with a large shallow end is ideal for playing around. A pool that divides up the shallow and deep end equally is a good all round multi purpose pool.
You can put 5 people in a 16 x32 but what are they going to be doing? If they're planning on just sitting in loungers, no problem, but a volley ball game won't be happening. It can be used , if it's dug to 8 1/2 feet in the deep end (regulations) for diving.
I find, that if you intend to do a bit of entertaining (word spreads fast when you buy a pool) that something in the order of at least an 18 X36 would do with ample space for your family and some company. If your budget allows and so does your building code, go for a 20X40 in a kidney dug to 8 1/2 feet covers everything. A good sized shallow end for all sorts of activities, good length for laps and a good sized deep end to accomodate the cannon ballers.

if you would like to know if a dog is able to be alone you should do some simple temperment tests when you are choosing the dog also talk to the shelter employees, or breeder to get some simple idea of the personality of the dog you are considering, as every individual of the various breeds is different ther is no other way to get the dog you want thatn to ask alot of questions. the temperment test I am refering to is to leave the puppy or dog alone for at least 20 minutes if it settles down then it will have the start of being able to handle solitary time, if it does not then you know atleast for the first few months it will need more attention. also remember that puppiess under 3 months need to be let out at regular times and cannot hold there blatter and bowles for longer than 3-4 hours so the age of the dog is another thing to consider. I would suggest getting an older dog from a shelter if you cannot give regular breaks to a puppy, due to your work hours. also avoid breeds that were developed for working with people as they tend to have more issues with separation than breeds which were developed to think independently. breeds like the labrador retreiver and many sporting breeds have energy needs and companionship needs which predispose them to separation issues, while hounds have less. in fact any dog can have separation issues reguardless of the breed. the care and trreatment of a pet will have an influentence of the behavior, but the basic temperment can only be changes within some limits and time. take as much time as you can to find your perfect dog, as there may be many that are close to choose from.
