You don't want to slow it sown. The only thing you can to is try to prevent this next time - ask your doc about going on the BC pill as that is what helped me for 15 years. My periods went from 15 days to 4 days! And, hardly any cramps!!

Now, that I am off the pill, I prophylactically take 600mg ibuprofen a day for 3-4 days before my period. Ibuprofen is an anti-prostoglandin - the substance that causes our cramps.

Good luck!

I dont know that you can slow the flow b/c your body will do what it will. However, I know that when I am on my period, I eat A LOT of protein and that helps keep me from feeling so weak. As you are bleeding, you are losing iron, so go eat yourself a big piece of red meat. You could take iron supplements, like liquid geritol, but the effect will not take place as fast as just eating a steak. And yes, drink water too.

There's nothing safe that I know of. You should only be taking Codeine if your doctor prescribed it for the cramps. Otherwise, you should use ibuprofen. As far as the weakness, it is probably some menstrual anemia. You can get some iron pills from the grocery store to help restore your iron levels.

I always laid on the floor with my feet on the couch, being on my back and my feet elevated, cause the blood to slow down,
and pain to slowly go away,
I found Midol, was the best pain medication for this.
With a heavy Flo, keep yourself as inactive as you can.

Try using a heating pad, put it where you are having your cramps, it won't stop instantly, but it helps mine after alittle while. Lay down, prop feet up and putting the heating pad on. Oh and stay away from caffeine for a few days.

Get off your feet. Lie down with your feet up. Put an icepack over your vaginal area. Keep the icepack on for 10 - 20 minutes, take it off for 10 minutes and repeat. Do not take aspirin or anything containing aspirin, because it will make you bleed more.

If your period is so heavy that you're feeling weak, go to the ER immediately. You do not want to pass out from blood loss. The doctors at the ER will help you. Or call you OB-GYN if you're able to and unwilling to go to the ER.

I had periods like that too. Try heating pads and propping your legs up. If you are soaking more than one pad in less than an hour, you need to be seen. You probably need birth control to regulate your periods. Sounds like you could have some cysts which hurt like the dickens. Please see someone soon as these can be very dangerous.
