Federal prosecutors in Arizona have opened a preliminary investigation of a camping trip Congressman Jim Kolbe, R-Ariz.,[THE ONLY OPENLY GAY REPUBLICAN MEMBER OF CONGRESS] took 10 years ago that included two teenage congressional pages, a Justice Department spokesman told NBC News.

As much as I hate to defend a Republican, this is ridiculous.

Hate to say it...but I suspect that the Foley Folly wouldn't be at the center of so much frenzy if his targets had been female.

Foley has made it an argument via his habit that has been observed over the years yet wager what the Republican management disregarded the purple flags. Now they could make it gay challenge in hopes of using it November election. This time the Republicans are going to style defeat no remember how they attempt to apply the gay challenge.

I don't really think it's a witch hunt on gays, but rather a continued witch hunt on sex offenders. Some members of society (Democratic or Republican) just love scandals and they're trying to make a nothing into a great big something.

In California, openly gay state lawmaker, Mark Leno, was smeared by Republicans for refusing to pass Jessica's Law. They tried to make it seem as if Leno was a child pornographer when he insisted on certain issues within the bill = many of which will probably getting kicked out because they're unconstitutionaMF

What we're seeing is another moral panic, much like the child satanic cult scares of the early 1980s.

Undoubtedly one of the reasons they went after Foley was because he sponsored some of this legislation supposedly to track child molesters, only to get caught up in it himself. It's a huge irony, and people love to see arrogance humbled.

Regarding the other politician - those federal prosecutors are just trying to make a name for themselves. If there is nothing there, they will end up looking like idiots. Good riddance!

No big deal So he is gay. Most politicians are at least BiSexual

And the whole Page thing is blown way out of proportion. Everyone knows the Pages are recruited from the gay community.

Like Cirque Soule recruits from Eastern Europe It means nothing Pages are gay it means nothing. Congress is gay Bush was BiSexual when he was a Cheerleader at Yale. It means nothing

Ok so nothing sounds fishy about a Congressman going camping with two pages??? Politicians are creepy lets not wince when the light is shown on their wrongdoings. If the guy is innocent then the prosecutors won't prosecute.

I don't think so. I think most ppl realize there is a huge difference between a pedophile and a gay person.

I personally don't even think Foley is gay... I mean this is the first we have heard of this. And it makes since for the rightwing to blame it on him being gay. That way they can defend their position with their anti-gay agenda.

Pedophilia is not a homosexual witch hunt, just maybe an investigation of this type will clear up any hint of impropriety by the congressmen, however if something is found would you want this man making decisions for you. I wouldn't

I hope it doesn't become that. Of course the current administration does have a track record of going after one target and getting sidetracked by another that is of no real consequence. This time they could very well divert from going after pedophiles to going after gays. (That is if they ever did think the pedophilia was the bad part.)

That's nothing new. Bill Moyers was tasked with finding and exposing gays on Barry Goldwater's campaign team in 1964. And Moyers admitted it.

I am all about getting Republicans out of office. That's job one, top of the agenda. If a """witch hunt""" will help boot one G.O.P. payola stooge out of office, let the unfairness roll.
