Family and Medical Leave Act of 1993...It's a federal law that applies only to employers with 50+ employees...It gives you the right of upto 12 weeks of UNPAID leave without jepordizing your job per 12 month period

I know in CA there is a state law that is more generous.

Family and Medical Leave Act.

You have some things to do to qualify:

Employees are eligible to take FMLA leave if they have worked for their employer for at least 12 months, and have worked for at least 1,250 hours over the previous 12 months, and work at a location where at least 50 employees are employed by the employer within 75 miles

It's called the Family Leave Law,and you can leave your job up to a year without getting fired.

Family Medical Leave Act - FMLA - but normally employers require that you have been employed longer than a year. Check with your employer to be sure.
