The fear of death. The fear of pain. The fear of loss. In that order.

Good question. First, I do not believe humans are instinctual. Fears are definitely learned. I have a fear of my daughter's loud burps. I also fear that my husband will discover who I really am and third, I fear that my son will not grow up! Those are learned, just like the spiders, monsters, darkness, heights, abandonment - all learned.
