I hear so often in the media the idea that we should reject stereotypes. But come on, these are largely based on real recurring traits. How could these have started in the first place if there wasn't some truths to them?

Yes. There may be some truth behind them. For instance, when I was a waitress, I stereotyped. I thought all ghetto people (black white, asian, whatever) were horrible tippers, because most. not all, of the ghetto people I have waited on have either tipped badly, or not at all. You go with what you experience. But sometimes, people take stereotypes too far, like saying all black people are more criminal and whine about slavery. The people who think this never actually heard any black person whine about slavery or complain about how white people are keeping them down. Those stereotypes have no truth behind them, and are just hurtful.

that's true and given that these "ideas" came from repeated behavior. however, i don't like stereotypes because it gives certain people the idea that they can base these behaviors from a few on all. that's what **** me off. i treat people based on who they are not what group they fall in and then think i know their whole history. that's what get under my skin.
