I don't think you can truly answer this question without delving into racism, because it's an inherently racist question. That's not a bad thing. People need to talk about race. It won't just go away.
That being said, I think it's because it's assumed that when minority women disappear in big cities, drugs or gangs are involved. Everyone is sick to death of hearing about drugs and gangs, so it's tuned out. No one cares anymore. Now a white woman, when she disappears, it's not because of drugs and gangs, so something is actually amiss. There could be a real story there, something besides drugs and gangs.
That's not my personal opinion, but I think that's what the media thinks that the average American thinks.

What makes you think only pretty white women get news coverage? You are ridiculous! Do you realize the MAJORITY of the country is white? So if they focus on 7 white people, and say, one hispanic/african american person, and you discard the one non-white person because you're already looking for your conclusion, you say they're all "pretty white women" and thats that. Well, think about it, if 7/8 of the country is white, and 1/8 of it is non-white, then, HEY, THATS ABOUT RIGHT.
OR MAYBE there are other factors involved, like all the crazy kidnapping bastards are in the middle of Ohio where theres even fewer racial minorities.
OR MAYBE all the crazy kidnappers are only kidnapping pretty white women because thats their style.
THE THING IS YOU DON'T KNOW ANYTHING, you're just accusing society of being discriminatory, while the only one being prejudicial is YOU (and maybe the kidnappers).
Why don't you get some real data, for instance, similar kidnapping cases dealing with minorities that were ignored in the media, and comparing them to the cases that were so very focused on by the media, and comprising a real argument? BECAUSE you don't have the time or the resources! But go ahead, add to the beaucratic wasteland that is our government and make sure they focus extra on minority kidnappings.

Good question. It has long historical roots running back to captivity narratives in early European America, and to white slavery narratives in European encounters with Africa and the Middle East. Not only does it make a comment about value, but about vulnerability: as in horror movies, white women have to be presented as the most vulnerable to pollution in order to justify patriarchal protections and rules. The mass media coverage, which blows incidents out of proportion, then scares white women into accepting this protection (to their detriment, as most physical and sexual abuse is carried out by a family member or friend of any given woman, ie: 9 out of 10 times), while society can continue to blithely ignore the wider threat posed by racism and poverty. I'm really glad this question is getting some good discussion. You could take a look for the report by Sisters in Spirit, a group dedicated to the memory of the many indigenous women and women of colour who "disappeared" (ie: were serially kidnapped, raped and murdered) from Vancouver's Downtown Eastside, while the police did nothing.

i agree, it's so sad. it's not only pretty woman that get missing show up on tv but pretty white women. when last did you see a black person on there for being missing?
i could care less about missing adults- but it's missing kids that should be broadcasted- all races. everything is just so stereotypical. it's going to take only a few months to fade out- remember what happened to natalie hollaway or whoever she was? she completely disappeared once nothing new was being presented to reporters.

i've got questioned this too Deeya. Peace be upon little Caylee, Haylee and the different Haylee (extraordinary huh?) and that i think the discomfort of the important different and infants. nevertheless, such as you pronounced- there are different infants lacking daily. no coverage on the information. i become thinking if it has to do with money. Does the media cover wealthy households dillemas the main? a number of those anybody is drawing their mark downs to hunt. Like that female lacking in Auruba- i think of her mom spent like a hundred,000 in seek and coverage. i need to be incorrect however. that is fairly tousled. a splash female disappeared out right here-(minority) the babysitter pronounced she got here into purpose along with her, yet that somebody took her. They performed the tapes and she or he on no account had the little female along with her. the information coated it once or twice- and we on no account heard the rest.

Because this is America. It's centered upon many things that nobody should care about.
1)Looks-people in this country are very precise on how they look when it shouldn't really matter.
2)Class-They care about the money, money is not everything.
3)Race-some Americans think because of skin color differences that they don't belong here.
And anyway why don't the American people shut up about looks, class, and race this is a multi-cultural country. We should share it with everyone who becomes a citizen.

It's for good television. White yuppies (who have the most spending power in america) find such things compelling, apparently. It seems that they don't identify with missing pretty black girls, or whatever.
It's not like people of other races don't go missing. They do. A lot of people do. How do i know? The FBI keeps a list.
It's basically just a form of entertainment, being shown under the guise of news. It appeals to the fear instincts in people, and their propensity for gossip.
Naturally, it's filth.

Do you have proof of that? Anyway, you probably do. I
was just thinking about that teacher in Florida that humped
her students. On TV, they kept emphasizing her interest
in blow jobs throughout her life. A lot of people got off on that.
