There is a mole trap in which the prongs that kill the mole are hidden underground. You pull it back to arm it and when the mole pushes past the trigger the prongs go from sticking into the ground to sticking down into the mole.
That is about as safe as you can get. If there is a mole it is probably digging around about 6AM anyway so if you are worried you can check it in the morning before the kids go out and put it away on a shelf before they are outside. Then put it back that night and try again for the next early AM.

I even have had good success with a sonic mole repellent noted as The Molechaser. that's image voltaic powered. that's a stake which you sink interior the floor and it emits this intense pirched noise each and every few seconds. human beings pays attention it in spite of the indisputable fact that this is not any longer very loud. The noise motives vibrations and the moles do no longer purely like the vibrations so they pass away. they're now no longer on the only area of our backyard yet have moved to the different area. feels like i want a 2d Molechaser! :) i offered it at homestead Depot for approximately $25

I saw a trap specifically for moles at Ace Hardware just yesterday. Sorry that I didn't take a close look at it to see how it works (I leave the moles alone). But I bet it must be for just exactly a situation like yours with kids around.

If you've ever been reduced to : taking on "gorilla warfare-tatics" in regards to ridding your , Lawn, Garden Areas, Flower Beds of "moles" , you'd know that #1). Those little #%$$^ can swim (i've flooded my yard countless times, while yes it does move them around, hopefully enough one can smack them with a shovel, if your standing there for sometimes awhile, sometimes quicker, ive tried juicy fruit chew gum which i believe they ate, they ignored moth balls, AND ..dig AROUND the mole traps (this one in particular really peeved me) , used the human hair ones shoved down there, hearing it to works, Nope. Untill 2 years back......I swear on my oath...the stupidest things often are the ones..and this one once again proved the point. I was told by a neighbor lady to get ahold of some sardines/tuna somthing stinky like that, shove it down the hole cover it back up...theyre gone..just like that. (supposedly they donot care for "Fish"). So beins i'd try anything i did..WOW is all i have to say...WOW..then i gave the neighbor a bag of peaches from my tree as a token of appreciation..!!...No Joke...P.S. i went to the dollar store and bought 2 cans of sardines for $1.00 used one can..other one is still in the cubbord.

Put stakes on the hole or small long arrowlike sticks with empty mineral bottles or beercans on top.The rattling noise when moved by the wind will scare the moles off.

get rid of their food source. Moles feed on grubs-larve of japanese beetles or other similar insects. Ask your garden center for a product for grub control. An eco friendly product containing milky spore is available. Good Luck.

I remember when I was little and some of things my friend's dad used to do. One was to push a water hose down the hole and try to drown them which I don't think worked. Another was to drive the car into the backyard and hook a vaccum cleaner hose to the exhaust pipe of his car and then put the other end of the hose down the hole.

Try tossing some moth balls down the holes. The smell should repel the animals and the moth balls would be down in the animal's hole where the children won't be able to get to them. Hope it works for you.
