I am going in tomorrow to be induced at 6a.m. This is my first child, I am 39 weeks pregnant. There is nothing wrong, my doc just asked me if I wanted to electively come in this weekend because she was going to be in this weekend and at 39 weeks pregnant, I have that option at that hospital. Also, she stated that the last few times I went in to see her, my blood pressure has been kinda high. Well, today, I think I lost my "plug" so I was wondering all day if I was going to be able to even wait until tomorrow. No dice. Anyways.........what should I expect? How long is the labor when you were induced? I know it is different w/every story, just want some insight on what to expect. Also, did any of you have to have c-sections after being induced and thinking you were going to have a vaginal birth? If so, what happened that you couldn't have it vaginally? Experienced mothers please! Tell me your experience.

I was induced twice and was being sent to bigger hospital for a third time when i was two weeks late. When i arrived at the bigger hospital the doctor looked at the ultra sound i had gotten from the smaller hospital and told me from the looks my baby was over 10 pounds. She told me if i had him vaginally there were a list of possible complications, mostly affecting my son not me. I chose to have a c-section that day. When induced i felt maybe two contractions, they were about a 3 on the scale and oh my gosh i thought i was going to die. The pain and limitations i had from the c-section were not fun for me. My child was 10 lbs 10.5 oz and i was not supposed to lift more than 10 pounds, i was home alone most of the time and was not allowed to climb stairs and i lived on the second floor. I could not drive anywhere either and could barely go to the bathroom alone. I had to have help sitting up and laying down etc etc. I would do it all again though. That was 11 yrs ago (i was a young 20 then) and now me and my new husband are trying for a baby. It has been so long i forget what the initial things feel like, i might be pregnant now, but hpt are all negative so far. This next period will be the point at which i know (i hope) and it's about 2 weeks away, wish me luck! Good luck tomorrow!!

I never had a labor that was not induced so I can't personally tell you what that was like. I was induced the 1st time with cervadil (a progesterone that is placed next to the cervix), and the next time with pitocin. The cervadil was extremely painful - they call it "cramping", but it feels like 2 knives being stuck into the pelvis and twisted, with every contraction. The pitocin did not create the same sensation...it was still very painful but that might have been because it speeded up the labor so much, 2 hrs vs. 20 hrs. With the cervadil, it took a long time to dilate and I was in a lot of pain before I had barely dilated at all. Also I don't want to trip you out when I say "painful", because I could not get an epidural with either (wierd spine), and hopefully you can! I am also not sure if the quick 2nd labor is because pitocin makes it quicker, or just because it was the 2nd baby. I would definitely however recommend pitocin vs. cervadil. I have a suspicion that waiting to go into labor naturally may be more comfortable than either, but I don't have the personal experience to back that up. And I know it's soooo hard to wait...Having been through labor, and had other abdominal surgery although not a c-section, I would always opt for a c-section if it WAS an option. When I had surgery (after the babies), I was shocked at how little it hurt vs. labor and kept saying, "if labor is a 10 then this is a 3!" So I wouldn't be too nervous of a c-section, unless you had to get one AFTER 48 hours of labor :( . Anyway i hope you have better experiences than mine and an epidural! I am not trying to be mean and frighten you, but before my 1st baby everyone lied to me and pretended it didn't hurt (the childbirth coach said it felt like "a strong hug"), so I felt like the most inadequate in-labor woman in the world. So I just wanna let you know, it is ok to be a wuss and ok to ask for as much pain control as you can get. The only thing that could possibly make labor worth it, is a baby.

Yep, I was induced, two times! Both times I had my babies vaginally. The first time, I was nine days past my due date, so they issued an "eviction notice". My labor was 8 hours long, 3 of which was pushing (BIG head!). The second time, I was three weeks early, but when I went in for my routine exam, I was dilated to four and having some wimpy contractions, so I went in to the hospital, where they let me walk to see if it would rev things up, but it didn't, so they induced me and that of course, produced a baby in only four hours. Both times were quite positive, I never had an epidural because my labors progressed so quickly that by the time things really got horribly painful, I was in transition and the baby was almost ready to come anyway. But I am hoping that for the next baby (if there's one) that I will go naturally, as I have never had the chance to have a baby without a dose of pitocin! So I guess we'll see! Best of luck to you & congrats on your baby!

I was induced for my last 2 pregnancies, The first one, the baby just wasn't coming, the second one was do to medical necessity. There are complications that can arise from induction. Since this is your first, there is no way to determine how long labor is. My first induction went on for 10 hours and I never fully dilated. I pushed my son out when I was 8 centimeters. With my twins, my blood pressure sky rocketed and a was suffering from preeclampsia. The induced me, and after 24 hours and my blood pressure not going down, the did a Cesarean. Also with elevated blood pressure, inductions are watched carefully. The drug they use to induce can cause your blood pressure to increase, and they may stop using the drug. I was more grateful to have the Cesarean than to have to push babies out when I wasn't fully dilated. It really is a catch 22 when it comes to induced labor. Best of luck on your bundle of joy.

I havent been induced this is my first baby, but I was told to get an epidural no matter what to help with the contractions and pain. And if you are getting induced at 6am I would get some major sleep tonight incase it takes a while for labor, have your bags packed and some snacks! Good luck and I hope that everything works out for you and you have a smooth labor.

If you're going to deliver naturally you might be waiting between now and 14 hours depending how far the contractions are. Are you having contraction? If so start timing them, and have someone phone the doctor.

I was induced but my daughter was so big that I needed a C-section.

If you want to avoid being induced you can always drink a whole lot of prune juice that will get things going since your plug has come out.

Good luck! I was induced and it after 4 hours I was having the most outrageous contractions. Then she was born 2 hours later. It went from 0-60 in no time at all. It'll be intense, but it will be ok. I wouldn't do it again, I now think a baby will come when it's ready. The baby I induced was cranky, colicky and hated breast feeding. It took us a good 3 months to get her settled into life. Everyone has a different experience, though. This one is yours and will be great.
Good luck to you and your family!

The day i went into labour i saw the bloody show and that when it all went crazy. By the time i got to the hospital my water still hadent broke so the doctor did it for me and i didnt feel a thing. I had the baby a couple hours later with out an epidural and no other pain killers...but everyone is different...good luck!

Baby 1 - Dream delivery....they should all be that smooth. I was induced (8 days late) and was given my epidural as soon as I requested. that actually sped up the dilation and It was all over in like 4 hours.

Baby 2 - Delivery from hell..... I was induced because my water was "dripping" and it was on the due date so they kept me. They induced me because I had not gone into labor. They REFUSED to give me my epidural when I wanted it because I was not dilated. I'm in TERRIBLE pain at this point. I tried to tell them that the epidural sped up dilation in baby 1 but they would not listen. I would make absolutely sure that they will give the epidural when YOU want it. Sure enough when the new nurse came on duty she took pity on me and talked the Dr into doing my epidural which they could barely do because I was hurting so bad with contractions. I only got numb on half my body but it took the edge off long enough to deliver her an hour later. Like I tried to tell them I went from 3 to delivered in literally an hour. This too, would have been a dream delivery if I had been given my epidural when I wanted it. I would make that perfectly clear to your doctor because the contractions are TERRIBLE in this case.

Baby 3 - C-section....I pretty much knew I was gonna have a c-section when I walked in because he was breech. They gave me my epidural because I was having him that day one way or another. They then tried to turn him which was not successful. Once they decided to do the c-section, he was out in less than 5 minutes.

Best of luck to you! I think you'll find that it's not as bad as you might think it is!

I went in at 2:00, they broke my water, and at 3:30 started the drip(IV) I started getting contractions by 4:15, started around 6-7 min apart, and went to 5 min apart by 5:00. at 6:00 the contractions were 3 minutes apart and really intense, so I asked for the epidural, it took him 1.5hrs to get there, so if you want one, ask early. The contractions were really hard. They moniter the baby continuisly while being induced also. They checked me at 8, I was 3 cm, than checked me at 11:00, I was a "loose" 4cm, and thought, ahhh, this is gonna take forever. At 1:00, I felt the pressure, and nausea, they checked me and I was 10cm. I puked for about 45min, which the dr said was good cause it helps the baby move down, pushed for 25min and out he came weighing 6lbs 5oz. I delivered at 37W 6D, and 12hours labour. Hope that helps, and good luck
