Best Internet Forums or Discussion Boards??

Question

i'm nearly addicted to this little group on tribe.net (it deals mostly with the U.S. politics and current news).
but i'm sure there are similar and much bigger (and better?) groups elsewhere.

any recommendations??
(i've been looking hard but so far i haven't found anything really interesting)

I haven't found any. It used to be great in the days of bulletin boards when the sysop could exclude people who seriously misbehaved. Nowadays it seems that anyone can join a forum and, unfortunately, they soon become overwhelmed by the crazies so you can't have a serious discussion about anything. I wonder if news-groups are still active.
