listening to Oregonlive.com's police scanner and they have a plane coming down that's having trouble over at PDX. They are sending emergency crew out to the airport.

Do you think the plane will land safely?

They haven't said why the plane is in trouble, but I'm assuming the wheels have something to do with it.

How often do you think planes have trouble coming down and we don't hear about it?

There are 2 exact rules when talking about planes....

1) Take offs are optional

2) Landings are MANDATORY!

Haven't heard of this guys trouble (I am in Gresham) but there are lots of place to "land" a plane around Portland. That is... He may bend a few things but not bust it (and him self) up.

I have flown the Portland skies for 35 years. And have had to land off field now and then.

If the pilot is trained and follows his training it should be OK..

ANd your other question... Yes there are many times when you never hear about troubles in the sky.. But its still safer than driving the Banfield Freeway

the closest you will discover is the "parasite fighter" courses interior the 20's or so w/ Zepplins and later huge bombers interior the 50's yet then those planes did not "land" they flew as much as the mothership from under and snagged a bar or something w/ a hook and have been then reeled in whilst they had executed this (yet this never went previous the attempting out degree) So no, planes have never landed on different planes w/out the crash being stated on the 6 o'clock information

I think it happens everyday, where a small plane has to declare an emergency. Most land uneventfully as a result of good pilot training and great help from controllers.

I hope so...I hate flying. It ain't the falling I'm concerned about...it's the crashing...and the burning...

I always hope everyone's plane comes down safely...even the plane carrying people I don't like or agree with or approve of. I want everyone to be able to come home to their mothers...have a glass of milk...play with the dog. You know...stuff...
