Once upon a time, when Channel 5 was making its presence, they used to go wild with some films (Fridays - 10.30pm onward), but methinks when papers like the Mail get on the kick-rear bandwagon, threatening to wind up their readers to write to the channels who showed the programmes - and even their MP's and/or the police, they decided to show a greatly chopped and censored film, realising it would be the 'lesser of two evils (in a manner of speaking).
The right-wing section of the media makes the spirit of Mary Whitehouse live on...but hey - you can always get your fill from - er - certain stores!
Not meaning to be too rude, but I suspect a couple of the answers are somewhat hypocritical.

Because violence is obvioulsy perefrable to love in this twisted nation where a supposed potential pervert lurks around every corner ...that's why people are always talking about the good old days..when there was a full-scale world war on!!

You can not show hardcore sex on TV. It's national TV not a porn cinema. Your mother watches TV - do you want her seeing that sort of thing? Kids watch TV too!
I think porno is great but you have to have some standards on TV. Just watch it on DVD like everyone else!

As far as I'm aware,there's no 'porn' on UK TV.There are a million and one other places where you can find that,if that's what you want.

Because you are actually living in the matrix where everything is controlled by machines. Machines do not want you to enjoy anything to any great extent - hence the watershed crap. Resistance is futile

Because immature persons will think it is the normal way to behave, which it is not in our civilised country. Sex is sex - making love should be private, loving and beautiful.

they need to cut the sex senses and blood n gore coz people complain! It sux, but thats why we buy un-cut DVDs!!!
