Irvine Welsh, he also wrote Filth, Maribou Stork Nightmares, The Acid House, and Ecstasy. All very good reads. I haven't read his latest, The Bedroom Secrets of the Master Chefs, but I'm a big IW fan so I'm sure it'll be good. Ecstasy is a collection of 3 stories the 3rd of which is being made into a film. The film adaption was NOT written by IW it was written by a guy named John Hodge.

Irvine Welsh wrote the book.
He also did the screenplay for the film (i.e. not adpated by a third party).
For the film he changed the loctation from glasgow to edinburgh.
This way more americans would pay to go see it.
