I am writing an argumentative essay for my government class on whether or not welfare recipients should be required to work. I must give two reasons why they should be required to work and two reasons why they should not be required to work. I have come up with two reasons why they should not be required to work: for one, most welfare recipients lack the inside support, from family, etc., to help them pay for child care and any other expenses that are demanded from the working class, and a second reason why they should not be required to work is the lack of government support of providing jobs and related assistance in the economy. I only have one reason why they should be required to work: it will help to break the habit of dependency that is developed upon receiving easy, "free income". What is another reason why welfare recipients should be required to work? Thanks for all your help!

1) So they can help generate the taxes needed to provide them with welfare.

2) So they can teach their children that hard work can get one through hard times.

3) So they can have some pride in themselves.

4) So their children can have some pride in them.

5) So they can offer something back to the community that is supporting them.

First off, there should be NO argument or reason why they should not work. The government should not be required to provide jobs, they didn't provide mine or anyone I work with. They need to work, and become a productive part of society. Why should I work to house and feed my family, and also have to pay for someone else that thinks it's fine to sit on their @ss and let the tax paying public support them. I'm not against giving a helping hand, but let's be honest.....most would rather sit home and crank out kids to get a pay raise than go to work. Not to mention those that collect disability due to a drug or alcohol addiction. Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr!

I am so fired up! Why do ppl think that the government has a responsibility to anyone for a job? Geeze....well another good reason for them to get a job is because I'm sick & tired of supporting them! Everyone in this country has an opportunity to an education...why should I foot the bill because some are too lazy to take advantage of the opportunities that are given to them...This makes me SICK!
