I am writing an argumentative essay for my government class on whether or not welfare recipients should be required to work. I must give two reasons why they should be required to work and two reasons why they should not be required to work. I have come up with two reasons why they should not be required to work: for one, most welfare recipients lack the inside support, from family, etc., to help them pay for child care and any other expenses that are demanded from the working class, and a second reason why they should not be required to work is the lack of government support of providing jobs and related assistance in the economy. I only have one reason why they should be required to work: it will help to break the habit of dependency that is developed upon receiving easy, "free income". What is another reason why welfare recipients should be required to work? Thanks for all your help!
