This has been driving me nuts for years as I can't figure it out
a gang of teens go to a beach and get on this wooden floater in the sea and this wierd netted floater thing comes on by and one of the girls touches it and gets dragged in by it and it smothers and kills her and the rest of them so on me an my mates for years have tried to figure out what its called but never caught the name

It's called The Raft and was from the film Creep show, which is a collection of mini movies in one movie if you know what I mean. They are a collection of short films based no novels by Stephen King. I have it on video as I am a real horror fan and I think it's pretty good.

So I was wrong, that's not the right answer. But I know what movie you are talking about I just don't know the name.
I remember that the black thing seeps through the cracks of the wooden thing they are floating on and the last guy gets to shore, gets in the car and then it comes up and gets him and the car.

I think I remember that. At the end the last person makes it to shore and laughs at it right? Then it jumps on the shore and drags her in. Don't remember what it was but I thought it was a tv show not a movie.. Sorry.. haha

It's called "Tales from the Crypt". It has 3 or 4 different tales in the movies. The one you speak of is one of them.
