I AM PREGNANT WITH CHILD NUMBER 4 AND ON TUESDAY THE DOC TOLD ME MY CERVIX STARTED TO THIN OUT AND IT STARTED TO GET SOFT.I ALSO DILATED 1 CM SO FAR.
MY QUESTION NOW IS,HOW LONG IS IT GOING TO TAKE FOR ME TO START ANY CONTRACTION?I HAVEN'T HAD ANY YET,AT LEAST I HAVEN'T FELT ANY.I DO FEEL MY BELLY GETTING HARD FROM TIME TO TIME,BUT IT IS NOT PAINFUL AT ALL.
ALL OTHER PREGNANCIES HAVE BEEN PAINFUL TOWARDS LABOUR AND I KNOW WHAT WAS GOING ON.ALL THIS NOW IS TOTALLY DIFFERENT AND NEW TO ME!!!

Well, it's really very hard to say. No one can know for sure when you'll go into labor, but dilating is a good sign that it'll happen before too long. With both of my babies, I was walking around at 3cm and then 4cm dilated before finally being induced, though, so you just never know! Don't worry--since you've been through this before, I'm sure you'll know once the real thing sets in!

Those hardenings of the belly ARE contractions and they are probably getting the muscles ready and may even be helping to thin and dilate the cervix. You are going to have that baby soon, but probably not tomorrow. I'm sure your doctor has told you about how to get labor moving but just in case here are some things my doctor told me. Please talk with your doctor before trying anything just to be safe.
>Walking, walking, walking
>Bouncing on a big ball or laying your arms on your couch or chair and bouncing gently on your thighs and legs
>Marital relations, expecially those with orgasms on the part of both the man and the woman (the man's semen contains chemicals that can help)
>More walking
>Nipple stimulation (WARNING this causes VERY intense contractions so check with the doc first and stop when the contractions start, walk around and bounce once they have started)
>Evening Primrose Oil (PLEASE CHECK WITH DOC FIRST)
>More walking and more sex
>Eat well and get plenty of sleep

There are other things, but as I said (a lot) check with your doctor first. Labor should go pretty quickly once it gets started so be ready, have the sitter there and get the bags packed.
Congrats

It can take a week or two being dilated only 1cm. I had mild labor for 12 days before my daughter decided she was ready. Try to walk some, relax in the shower.

when you belly is getting hard like that, that is still a contraction - it's just the braxton hicks contractions. i've had those since i was 22 weeks pregnant. Sometimes I would have like 20 per day and no, they don't hurt all the time. Sometimes they would feel like period cramps, but most of the time, they were painless. anytime your belly tightens, it's a contraction. it's all good! just sit back and wait for it to happen. i am getting induced tomorrow morning. wish me luck! it's my first!

It will probably go the same as the previous 3.
Sometime, it gets easier, but usually not -- depends on the baby, too.

Good luck, I wish you all strength, and hope it will be easier than before. You are great!

Don't worry, you have a couple of weeks to go.
You know you'll be feeling the pain soon enough.

Good luck!
