yes foreigners need to follow, host country culture, tradition,if they want to practice their beliefs they should do so in their country, and not try to change other peoples, cultures, and traditions,if you don`t like them than go to your country, and practice your, cultures to your hearts content.

I also agree with Jack Straws' comments. I really don't see what all the fuss was all about. Firstly he only 'asked' if they would mind removing their veils, secondly, and as someone said earlier, this is not what is considered 'normal' in this country, and finally I think I would have great difficulty if I had to partake in a serious discussion with what is effectively a Venetian Blind.

Yes so they should. I have been all over the world and when I visit certain countries you have to dress accordingly to their culture or dress code if you like. So I think the rule should apply over here in Britain. For goodness sake if the man can't understand what they are saying surely he has a right to say can you lift the veil up please it doesn't mean he's racist. I think people are looking into thinks more deeply and it seems we are all walking on eggshells. This is Britain remember!

Yes they shouldnt be allowed to wear their veils. They are in a country with a different culture and they should therefore respect that. It isolates them from the rest of society and if they want to parade the streets wearing their dress then why dont they go home where it aint frowned upon!!
I am sick hearing their mumbles and grumbles about their rights in Britain, its becoming boring! They raise the racist defence at every opportunity and I think we should send them all back to where they belong!!!!

Totally. I am still waiting for the first big bank job to be done this way. Theoretically they could walk into a bank, totally disguised and carrying rocket launchers under clothing and no one would know until it was too late.
If I take my bike to the garage to fill it with fuel, I have to remove my helmet before entering the shop to pay for the fuel, if I was to walk into a bank wearing a balaclava, I would be floored (and probably shot) with-in 3 paces!
Why treat everyone differently, one set of rules, this is NOT a Muslim state (just yet) and if they don't like it here I am sure dedicated Islamic Countries would welcome them!

I think you will find everyone except the Muslim 's will agree with him.
This has merely given them something new to rant and rave about.
Next week someone else will make a statement about something else they will disagree with, and the band waggon will start all over again.

If Jack Straw prefers to speak to his constituents without them hiding their faces, then I can hardly agree or disagree. That is his choice. It is just strange that he chose to raise the issue. He must have known his comments would be distorted by the Press.
There are all sorts of religions and beliefs in the UK. One of the characteristic of Britain is supposed to be liberalism and tolerance. In my view people should be able to think what they want, worship who they want and dress how they want, as long as they don't harm others.

It's the equivalent of trying to have a conversation with someone who is hiding in the bushes... where they can see you but you can't see them. Not what I'd consider very friendly at all.

In a country where women have equal rights, yes, and the parental pressure to follow stupid customs should be banned.
