In early stories (Marvel) Thor followed closer to some norse myths... he was stronger then most of his race, but had a belt that gave him enough strength to even lift his hammer.
Officially Thor is an Asgardian, a race of Gods, and has super human strength and is still stronger then most of the other gods. He no longer needs the belt to lift the hammer, though the hammer augments his strength further.
You don't need to be strong to weild his hammer, just worthy. It is enchanted so that whoever is deemed worthy shall weild the power of Thor.

No Thor is Asgardian and has super strength. This is not related to the powers of the Hammer Mjlonir. Also in battle he can go into a berserker rage multiplying his strength 10 times.

Depends on the version of Thor. In the early stories Thor was called forth from the hammer by whoever was holding it to possess them. Later he was himself and the hammer was just a magical weapon.

It depends on the version of Thor that is being used. A lot of his power does come from the hammer.

Not exactly. In the comic book, Thor's IN the hammer, sort of. Whoever's holding it becomes Thor.

Mythology changes and morphs from time to time. Over the centuriies the character Thor has adapted and changed but in all the versions he get much of his power from his hammer.

there are so many variations of thor...the new thor in the ultimate avengers series relies heavily on his hammer, but it is not the sole source of his strength
