I have a new pc and have never had a dvd burner before. I have downloaded some films from Ares but cannot get them to play on my pc either by using the library or Real player, its strange because both facilitate clips shorter than 20 minutes. I would like to know what I need to download to make these films watchable and what will enable me to burn them. I want something that I don't need to pay for! Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you

first of all u need to figure out wht the file extentions are, so that u can find the correct player for that perticular file type...
there is a video player named VLC player, which supports many of the file types..http://www.videolan.org/vlc/
u might need some codecs to play ur files, like divx...
to burn the files to a cd, u need to have a cd-writer and a buring software..when u purchase a cd-writer u usually get a burning software with it..if not, then u have to get a burning software separately

If its a codec problem i.e. won't play in windows media player..

Try Divx player as it will install the codec used by alot of authours to compress the files in size but not too much in quality.

I'll find you the link and even if it doesn't work for these films it is great codec for compressing your own movies...

free download ;)

try this first if still no joy you might need to buy Nero this is what I use to burn dvd's on my pc you have to convert the files into the correct format to make dvd's work in stand alone players and nero express 3 is really good at doing this even makes proper menus. you Normally get a free dvd recording software bundled with your rewriter.

Hope this helps

if you want to play the films on your pc you will need the correct codecs to play them, the best codec pack ive found is the ace mega codec pack, this plays all file extensions, avi, mp2 mp4 and wma files etc. its also very easy to download and install, once youve got that, to burn your films to disc you need either a cd burner for vcd's or a dvd re-writer for all types of format, these usually come supplied with burning software, the best being nero, used in conjunction with nerovision express, you can convert to any format, shrink the file and burn to disk in one easy process.

my neighbour lost his whole harddrive a few years back from using ares & i've always been abit nervous about having it on my harddrive, then again i guess a few people might have exactly that 2 say about using lymewire...

sorry, i can't be of much help, i'd just put it down to having bad quality downloads & the wrong burning software!

i've got a nice little harddrive case from maplins uk that connects to my tv via scart & renders the whole burning scene useless. of course if i drop the HDD then i lose everything but so far i've had nothing to cry about with the harddrive...
