my sister is 28 years old and to this day she is terrified of them...i don't mean it's just some little fear she has, i mean she is just absolutely terrified. She doesn't even like Ronald McDonald, and if she hears that familiar circus music she covers her ears and hums. I think why she is so scared of them is when we were really little, my older sister cut out a mask of a clown that was on the back of a cereal box. She hid in the hallway and when my other sister walked down it she jumped out at her...she thinks all clowns are evil!

I have actually had quite a few conversations with various people from all walks of life about this very subject. Heck yes! clowns are scary! Some think it has to do with the fact, that the clown is wearing his "own face" yet it changes with his every expressive facial movement (because of the make-up that has been applied), therefore you are seeing many sides of the creature...it is frightening and it leaves you unsettled to say the least... children should not be exposed to clowns unless they, themselves request to be so exposed to such a freakish presence. I believe that most people, feel a bit uneasy when around the clowns, as they do take on the many emotions, happy, funny, and frightening, that we exibit deep within us all. On the one hand, the clown is hiding behind a mask of painted on extravagent emotion, on the other hand, he is trying to come out of hiding. When all of his emotion is shown at the same time, while trying to hide behind a mask of deceit, yet, trying to break through this deceit with his facial gestures of pain, happiness, and sorrow, he is just plain freaky and almost intolerably inhuman.

About 65% of the population express a fear of clowns. I tattoo them on people all the time and have ask that question more than most. I hear from the majority of my clients that it is an inability to know the true nature of the person behind the mask. Do they mean harm, or just jovality.

If you mean clowns then yes I think they can be scary. Ever read "It" by Stephen King or see the tv movie? If you never were scared of clowns before you will be after reading/seeing "It".

yes, i think some clowns look pretty scary. I've seen little kids run away from clowns screaming from the top of their lugs, because they're terrified of the scary looking clown.

are you asking if clowns are scary? If so, yes, I think they are. If not, I don't know what a "clow" is.

It is actually a very common fear. Clowns are just freaky.
So two cannibals were eating a clown when one cannibal looked at the other and said "does this taste funny to you?"
