My guess, is that you're referring to Terry Stafford. Stafford had a hit in '64 called "Suspicion", which many people said very much resembled Presley's voice....Presley did a version of this song in '62, but it never achieved commercial success until '77 in the U.K.

As far as any rumors of Elvis using a different name, I've simply never heard of it before.

EDIT: Lynn, I believe you're talking about Ronnie McDowell, who didn't receive any real notoriety until he released "The King Is Gone"...a tribute to Presley after his death. McDowell's voice has been compared to Elvis'.

conway twitty had a #1 hit in the 50s with "make believe" that sounded so much like elvis that it was scary...also...terry stafford's "suspicion" from the early 60s is very scary elvis-like

I can't remember his first name but it was Mcdowell, and you're so right , couldn't tell them apart.
