There are a couple of patterns that are called snail's trail. The most common is also known as monkey wrench (not to be confused with the monkey wrench block that is also known as churn dash or shoo fly or hole in the barn door). It consists of a four patch in the center of the block, with two or three rounds of half square triangles around it to form a swirl pattern. The placement of light and dark is essential to show the swirling pattern. Some books say that a monkey wrench has only two rounds, while a snail's trail has three rounds.

The first link below is to the pattern, and the second is to a gallery of quilts designed on EQ5 from this block. There's also an excellent pattern in the book "Quilts from the Quiltmaker's Gift", one of my favorite quilting books.

Celtic knot (or Celtic applique) isn't a particular block development, yet somewhat a skill of springing up Celtic knot shapes as far as i comprehend. it may be used as a layout on man or woman blocks blended into an entire precise or as a decorative border. it fairly is many times achieved as needle-turn applique or with bias tape.
