Some of the sites aren't actually "scams" and do deliver iPods. However, you usually have to find 20 friends who are willing to sign up, spend half an hour filling out surverys or wading through ads, and that's just to get *you* a free iPod - they don't get anything until *they* sign up 20 people. It's all about diminishing returns.

I followed one I was determined to follow to the end, and after about a half an hour, the site shut down. Amazing what you'll do when you drink enough! My vote goes with the scams.
