If I take him to a pet store, will they examine him for free, or will I have to pay...?

I recommend feeding your adult bettas once a day and your fries twice a day. If you really have nothing better to do, then you could also feed your adults twice a day, but cut the quantity of feed in half. You don’t want obese bettas, now, do you? :))

My betta eats until she's full I only give her about 5 pellets in the morn and same at night..Is she holds it in her mouth too long I scoop outt he rest of the food cause I know shes full..here's a helpfull site

this is common with smaller bettas and fish in general if the food is too big for them to swallow they will spit it out and continue this process until they can swallow it -Bettas like many fish swallow food whole. I do not suggest feeding the betta flakes it can cause intestinal problems but you may want to look at smaller pellets or crushing the ones you have. Bettas usually will not eat when they are sick. Any GOOD pet store will not charge to look at the fish.

Pet shop dont ask for payment for such a request. If so, pls go to another pet shop cos they are too commercialised. Your beta eaten patern shows that the pellet you use are too big for it. When betas try to eat, they are usually not sick at all. A sick fish will not even response to any feedings. Just change your fish food will solve everything. There are very tiny pellets meant for bettas. Just ask the shop.

Most of the bettas that I have had I have fed Hikari betta pellets. It's a good food for them. But mine too usually had a hard time swallowing the pellets. And the reason mine died was that they jumped out of an uncovered mini (betta) tank. Always cover anything you are using to hold fish, ecspecially bettas!

He may be having problems with the pellets but probably just breaking them down. You could try him on blood worms or brine shrimp as an alternative. Pet stores wont generally be able to help, better off talking to a vet or betta website.

Even though Beta's are known to handle unsanitary water,a perfect Beta medium is obtainable through research of all types.Like you said, have the vet check him out for free,so you can hopefully understand this fishy dilemma and over come it.If that does not succeed, take it in to your own hands and create the perfect habitat for such a unique fish like the Beta,by any means necessary, since this creatures life is now in your hands.I wish for you and the fish, nothing but health and prosperity ....Tom Science

I used to feed my betta blackworms fresh. They were rather cheap, so when they went bad I'd throw them out and get new ones. To serve, I'd stick a wooden chopstick in and pull out one at a time and release it in the water above the fish. It liked the live food and ate it eagerly. You have to keep the worms in the fridge and rinse them frequently. Fresh food is fun, but a pain. You might try a soft/moist pellet.

betta pellets are fine, although since he seems to have trouble fitting them into his mouth, you might try flakes. One of my females had this isse because she is rather small, but she has now learned to go after the smaller pellets and leave the bigger ones to her friends.

My betta was doing the same thing. I bought him a different brand of pellets. He has no problem eating Hikari tropical "Betta Bio-gold"

The pellets are probably a little too hard for him and he tries to chew it then spits it back out until its soft enough. Soak the food in a little jar with water from his tank for a few minutes before you give it to him.
