Not sure but try to get medical help right away because that may have resulted that it may have gotten ran over by a bike or something and it may be experiencing a great deal of pain.

If the red or pink is under the surface of the shell, or on the skin, it is possibly septicemia- a blood infection that should be seen by a vet. It may also be a form of shell rot, the result of an injury, etc.

If you found it in the wild, I'd release it as close as you can to where you found it- its odds will actually be better in the wild than in captivity.

Shell rot and injuries can be treated at home in pet turtles- but wild caught turtles will experience so much stress from the capture and new habitat that it will almost certainly 'fail to thrive' and not recover as well as we would hope.

I applaud your desire to help, but it is almost certainly best to let it go.

well...if the blood looks like its under the shell (under the scale of the shell) I'm guessing it's the begining of shell rot. If a turtle is kept in an unsanitary and damp place continuously, this can happen. If this is what is happening, as it progresses, infection will show up (pus) the scale will start to lift, perhaps bubble up. You never said what kind of turtle, mainly land or water. A vet would be advisable. If that is impossible, i would try to keep the turtle in the cleans way possible, let that shell dry out. I have seen bad cases of this, where the scale (scute) actually falls off! It will not be regrown or replaced.

I'm not sure about the treatment, but this sounds either like some kind of fungal or bacterial infection. You should keep it away from water or humid atmospheres to stop the grwoth of the infection, don´t worry she won't dry out, and as soon as you can take her to a well trained vet on reptile diseases. I've seen cases where unexperienced people use medication that is lethal for turtles, for example ivermectin kills them.

Good luck, hope I was of some help.

i have seen turtles whose shells have been scraped (skinned)
when hit by a car or other injury and seem to have bloody spots on their shells
how is the turles acting otherwise? is it active or eating? if so then maybe its not hurt too bad, keep it clean and see if it improves, you might call and see if you have a reptile vet in your area, he might be able to give you more info or do you have an animal rescue group in your area

May I ask how long the turtle is? 90% of turtles smaller than 8 inches or so likely have Salmonella and it's very important to let it go and to wash your hands if you've touched it.
