I have an icemaker that came with the freezer and because of some leakage, disconnected the water supply. When the wire is up, everything is fine. But when the wire is down - which happens frequently when the freezer is full, it keeps making noise as it is trying to make ice. Is there a way to just turn it off so it stops trying to make ice?

there will be two or three bolts holding it in there. Two above the ice maker and maybe one below it. Unscrew them and the i-m will come loose from the wall of the fridge. The will be a wiring harness that you will need to unplug. It is as simple as pulling it apart but it may have a little piece of plastic that you have to hold while pulling apart. Once you undo that, it will come right out, and all of your problems are solved. With the wiring harness unplugged, it is not calling for water anymore, so you won't have any problems anymore. Hope I helped

Boy, some of the answers are doozies. Like the one saying "unplug the fridge"......duh !!!

Ok, some have alluded to the "arm" whcih needs to be raissed. This is the "ON-OFF" harvest arm. By raising the arm UP, you stop the ice making process. What I dont understand from your question is, doesnt the arm raise with the volume of ice and stop making ice?

If your ice maker is a newer one, you may see an ON-OFF switch, simply turn it off.

Hope this helps.

Lift up the thin metal "arm" that monitors the level of the ice. The maker will "think" it's full. Prop it up if it keeps falling down- maybe with a container of ice cream :)

usually there is a power cord going to the ice maker, you could just unplug that. or you could put the wire in the up position an remove the wire leaving it in the up position.

There should be an On & Off switch to it. Check your owners manual or call an appliance store to see if they can tell you where its at.
