No. The minimum wage should be abolished entirely. Let the employer decide what to offer. If the wages are too low, no one will take the job, or will quit soon after so he'd be wise to offer a reasonable wage if he wants to stay in business.. Government involvement is totally unnecessary.

FYI: if minimum wage increases, so does the cost of everything else. So, if you raise minimum wage, everything else will go up more. Plus, unemployment will go up. Oh and, the federal government doesn't change it anyway (so it has nothing to do with a republican congress). Each state sets it's own minimum wage. The federal government only sets the absolute minimum it can be. For example: federal minimum wage is $5.15 but the minimum wage in CA is $6.75. Also, most of the places where housing etc has gone up so dramatically are states where the minimum wage is higher than the federal minimum (ie: CA, NY)

But the cost of food has increased only slightly. If you raise the minimum wage that will go up. If you think someone on minimum wage even if it's raised can afford a house, a college education and Blue Cross, you've lost your mind.

We need more education grants more then we need a hike in the minimum wage. Let's get them out of minimum wage jobs.

I have a college education and have a fairly decent job. Why should minimum wage increase? My hourly wage doesn't increase when the prices of groceries go up. Increasing minimum wage would only put the wage closer to the wage of those of us who buckled down and went to college. People need to get an education in order to get a better paying job.
