When I was 7, my brother read me a story about a boy who didn't want to walk to the market for his mom. The kid told his mom he was afraid a monster lived in a vacant lot along the way, and over time made himself believe it, until the force of his belief brought a real monster into existence. It butchered his best friend. I was months getting over that story.

Later story: the Sawney Beans, a family of cannibals who lived in a cave in Scotland a few centuries back. One mom and dad, and their incestuous kids and grandkids, may have killed and eaten hundreds of people over the years. They finally made a mistake, got discovered, and King James brought a small army to haul them out of the cave and put them all to death. There is some argument about whether the story is true or not.

when I was little my older brother told me about a story were a family lived in a craw space and when the real family were gone for the day the people would come up and eat there food and watched TV, shower, and took what they can, to live on. I always had nightmares about that, in fact I'm a lot older, won't say though, and sometimes when I wake up to use the bathroom I almost always look down the hall to make sure I don't run into that family eeeeeeeeewwwwwwww creepy.
