What makes people so disconnected from reality? For example, people that constantly talk about celebrity life, etc...Am I the only one who is in disbelief about these people?

They watch too much TV, in my opinion.
I will hear the women at work, wailing and bemoaning the fate of someone, and I ask, "Wow! What happened?" only to find out it some character on TV.
One woman at work told me she does not like to sit and think, because she is "afraid" of the content of her own mind.
Others brag that they have not cracked a book since they escaped High School.
I feel sorry for them.
Me, I do not know, or care, who Jennifer Anniston is dating, or breaking up with. I am sure that she cares, but I do not. I have no preference between Shakira and Beyonce. I do not know who these people are, or what they look like, or what kind of music they produce!
Most of the fairly recent celebrities I have never even heard of.
I do not care that Barbra Streisand cussed out her audience at a recent concert. I have no idea what her political beliefs are, and I do not care.
I like to read, think, spend time on the Net, and watch (some) sports or films on TV. Otherwise, I shut the TV OFF.

no your not the only one that has a hard time swallowing that some people make what they see on TV the center of there life.
i dont think its really there fault there just not original thinkers, they are followers following the media, in this day and age that is how civilised societys are controlled, the media, not all of us fall into it to such an extent that we live our lives in the clouds as you said but most of us fall into it at least somewhat and are VERY much controlled by it because of thiose who are completely submissive to the pull of the media, if the majority of the population feels a certain way about something then thats pretty much the way it is.
THAT is why it irritates the crap out of me that there are people who are so weakminded as that, and there weakness is what makes us a society who "thinks" we are free rather then realy being truly free people.

I think I know where your comming from. To many people really believe they live on a cloud and thats where thier heads are.It must be too hard for them to put effort into real life so they live in thier make believe world. I don't have much..but what I do I earned on my own. I respect myself and others who deserve respect. I am proud of who I am..where I came from..am how I got to where I am.

it is because they do not have a real life of their own. and they are still like little children playing make believe, but with their own lives and can not see the difference from people ( actors )
playing a part on TV or the movies and their minds think they are for real the part the actors play.
they need MEDS......

The sad thing is that some people think that the more they know about what's on TV the more real their life is.
I don't get it either. I try not to take it seriously.

completely agree with Zen... people are living in fantasy world of tv and maybe they get to be in lala land thinking about 'nothing' but clelebrity gossip. They are unable to sit and think, its too complicated, theyre minds have grown too small to contemplate life and its meaning
