Can somebody please define "Virus and Spyware", I've been using AVG (Grisoft) for a year now and it's picked up on one Trojan..I also have The Spyware Doctor (Pc Tools) which finds infections everyday near enough..if i don't scan frequently with spyware doctor my pc "hangs" or slows down considerably making browsing a HUGE headache. Why doesn't "The Spyware Doctor" alert me when there's a problem? It deletes cookies automatically but then when i scan, the results that it's found are "more cookies", "known bad sites..suspicious internet files" oh and 1 "trogan". I downloaded the latest version of "Spy Dr" and updated it which caused more hair pulling. It blocked every site that i wanted to view,,even my homepage, I've sorted that out now but it's really annoying me now why it doesn't alert me, My subscription runs out in a couple of months.. Any suggestions? Please!

I had nothing but trouble with Spyware Doctor (pc tools), an registry mechanic. I enjoy testing software if and when I have spare time. I found that their products hang up all the time an usually freeze on scan.
Plus Spyware Doctor only removed cookies.
spyware, is usually tracking cookies that can track all of your habits going from one website to another. Some can even steal your data. Plus give you unwanted pop-ups.
Virus are very dangerous as they multiply and can actually destroy your entire system. Not to mention that all your data can be stolen depending on what type of trojan virus is installed in your system.
Being a clinical psychiatrist I have a moral and legal obligation to keep my pc 100% clean from all virus/spyware/malware.
I tested every free and purchase antivirus system known. An I found only one that actually works 100%. Never had a virus or spyware in my system in nine years. Used by the Government of China.
http://www.filseclab.com
Go to, www.filseclab.com and download thier Twister AntiTrojan Virus program. (You will have to pay a small one time fee). You will never have to pay an annual fee for updates, support or new versions. The one time fee is for life. ($29.99)
The software company is located in Beijing, China. They have excellent support, frequent large signature updates an as always all new versions are free. No annual fee for anything.
Comes with a real time scanner that really works. Actually I am quite amazed over the nine years how well it works.
Scans memory on startup.
Real time scanning in the background.
Open any webpage with an embedded trojan/spyware or malware and scanner will clean on the spot. An It is really removed from your system.
Download any kind of program from zips, all compressed files, software files, music, etc, etc, an if there is a hidden embedded trojan, spyware, malware, this program will stop the download and clean. An will advise you to end the download.
Will even find a virus in the installer wizard, like "Wise Installer". And will stop the installation while it is being installed and clean. Plus this program always will trace back who installed the trojan.
I had a trojan in and wizard installer. Twister caught the trojan and stopped the installation. I wrote the origianl company and told them the wizard installer had an embedded trojan to steal your data. The company now uses thier own installer.
You can't beat this software for a one time purchase fee only. Actually I don't know of any antivirus progam that even comes close to this state of the art technology.
All I can say it is worth the one time fee. Your pc cost alot of money and you don't want it destroyed. Plus your privacy is protected at all times.
There is nothing in it for me to praise this program. I tell it like it is. If it is garbage I will say so.
If you don't want to spend more money then there is an excellent free program that you can download. You will have to fill out a very short form with your email address, as they will send you a free registration key good for one year. After one year you just renew the key.
Go to: http://www.avast.com Download their free home version. The corporate version is the same as the free version. They only make corporate pay for the antivirus program. Excellent program with daily updates and scans all areas of your pc.
I used it on a second pc for nine years and never had one virus.

Spyware Doctor employs a number of resident protection (OnGuard) modules which integrate with internet explorer and eat up system resources; the immunizer sometimes conflicts with Spybot Search and Destroy and Spywareblaster; Spysweeper and Ewido (AVG Antispyware!) operate similar systems; it's a matter of finding the right combination of antispyware and antivirus, or choosing not to use resident antispyware protection
and relying on frequent or scheduled scans. I don't use AVG because I just hate that product but others swear by it. I've used Spyware Doctor with Avast antivirus and Zonealarm or Kerio or Comodo firewalls without any significant issues.
Turn off Onguard and see if it makes browsing easier; but then consider whether it's worth renewing. A new product (recently declassified as rogue antispyware) Spyware Terminator offers free resident protection - available from reputable sites such as Download.com and Snapfiles
If you want less invasive protection whilst browsing, consider Arovax Shield or Winpatrol

Your AVG is great. Keep it.
For Antispy protection I recommend (for full time active protection):
Windows Defender Beta 2.
SpywareBlaster (blocks incoming spyware and cookies)
Ewido. (free 30 day trial of full program. After 30 days it stops providing the full time protection. It still can be used to scan and remove spyware (expecially Trojans). It will have to be updated manually. It is well worth the 29.95 purchase price for the full package.
Other free antispy programs like AdAware SE and Spybot are great for scanning and removal on a regular basis.
All of the above can be downloaded at this site:

A virus is meant to infect your pc causing damage or loss of programs, spyware tracks you information so others can use it.

Virus - computer infection that may have spyware and/or adware in it and slows your computer down.
Spyware - computer infection that spys on your computer screen to figure out your passwords or find info about you.
Adaware - computer infection that gives you a whole bunch of pop-ups of what they want you to buy.
I hat that stuff....
