So I was at the gas station. I went in the station and told the clerk I wanted to put $20 on "the silver mustang" I pointed to my car which was the only one actually at a pump. When I tried to pump my gas it wouldn't work so I went back in to see what was going on. The clerk said "pump 7?" and I said "no, the silver mustang" Well in the mean time a lady started pumping gas on pump 7 and he said to me "you'd better get out there, she's pumping your gas" And I said back to him "Thats not my gas! You need to get out there an take care of this!" He tried to tell me that I was the one that needed to talk to her. At that time another employee jumped in and said he would take care of it. Without that other employee I could tell there would have been big problems. Who was in the wrong?

The clerk was in the wrong. It is his job to know the pumps.

well he was in the wrong, theres no set rules as far as how you "order" gas haha you go to a gas station and you pay for it and the clerks job is to turn on the right pump, the numbers on the pump are helpful but if you said "the silver mustang" you made it clear as to what pump you were at. if he had any question he should have asked you to point or even to go out and look to see the number on the pump, he made a mistake by turing on a pump different then the one you were parked at.

You were right. He was wrong. With only one car near the pumps, he clearly hit the wrong button and so it was his mistake, not yours.

The woman likely would have paid you the $20 for her gas -- most people understand that mistakes happen and do not want to make a big deal out of things.

The employee you gave your 20 to was definately in the wrong it was his resposibility to take care of it. And if i were you id go back and speak with a manager about the employee. Cuz if the dude cant do his job right then he dont need to have it

It is a classic case of miscommunication-comunication. From now on, to avoid any confusion, ask to activate the pump number, as do 99% of the rest of us.
