My 18 year old son is at his girlfriends house in the middle of nowhere. He needs a lift there and back. I`m not the sort of mum who would enjoy spoiling there fun but have to go to work tomorrow. Do I text him? If so what would I say?

Yes you have the right to text him as if he needs a lift home and your so kind to be his taxi , of course you should . At 18 he is no baby , but a baby in his mothers eyes always as you don't want him trying to get home by thumbing lifts etc. Text him , Hi son , I have got to get up for work in the morning I am starting to get tired , I will be there to pick you up in such and such a time , if he don't like it I,m sorry , ask him to stay over at his girl friends , they have a sofa, Tell him he will have to make his own way home in the morning. Turn your mobile off and go to bed, he is a big boy now , he should consider your feelings too . Best of luck , lv Debbie Jx

No, you PHONE him and tell him you are going to bed shortly so does he want picked up or what?

ps 18 is an adult ( allegedly) remember.

From now on, make it clear that after a certain time, you will not perform taxi duties. After all, it is a son so what have you got to worry about?

I'd text him saying you are going to bed soon, does he still want a lift at some point or is he staying over. Suggest he could pay for a taxi back if he's gonna be really late. You really shouldn't have to wait up all night to pick him up when it is convenient to him.

I would surprise them wearing just your nightie and carrying a handkerchief. Knock at the door - when he answers it, spit on the hanky and wipe his face with it. Then shout at the top of your voice so as the girlfriend can hear it - " Awww my little poppet, Mummy's here now to collect you and take you home, All right my little possum take mummy's hand now and we can go home so I can read u a nice bed time story and tuck you into bed and come on, give your mummy a great big kiss now."

Mom..

Your doing too much.. I know you love your son but he is grown he need to get a job if he has one he needs to buy a car used, new. doesn't matter. He has to show responsibly. he need to find is own ride to and from ANYWHERE unless your going as a family.

If you have to text him.. Just say I WILL BE OUTSIDE AT give the and that's it. But he needs to respect your time and your patience with him by evening coming out to pick him up.. tell him use a bike next time he wants to cause your time frame to be messed up

You do text him. You say "Mum's taxi service closes in one hour, so mum can get up early enough to pay for the gas in the taxi. I'll be there in 30 minutes, have your pants on, dearie."

text or call him. It is perfectly reasonable. Tell him he has next half hour then you have to collect him because you are really tired and have to work in the morning. At 18 it is time for him to mature a litle and accept your needs as well as his own.

It is not at all inappropriate for you to call him or texting him. You have things you need to take care of and you have your priorities straight. Isn't there any other way he can get home?
