Jansport is a good brand. Get one with a leather bottom on it. Go to a sporting goods stores for some really great choices of backpacks for school.

Jansport, I've had the same one since I was a freshman in high school and it's stayed with me now in collage. Plus if it gets dirty just throw it in the washing machine and let it air dry... it will look like you just bought it.
I have also heard that LL Bean and North Face have good ones.
