Drape yourself like a dummy sitting on a chair on your porch. Just as the kids ring the bell leap up and go
"Ooogahh boogah" My ex did this and scared a 12 year old girl and her friend... they ran from the porch screaming. They did come back to get the big bags of goodies we handed out though... and they laughed!

Try not to think about Halloween as a time to play pranks. Lots of little kids may be out, and you might harm them, depending on what you have planned.
There are lots of fun things you can do, like having a werewolf howl playing, dressing up to hand out candy, etc. Just remember the little kids, and try not to do anything that would ruin their evenings.
With movies, the Harry Potter ones would seem to be an excellent fit. You might also see if Practical Magic, starring Sandra Bullock and Nicole Kidman is ok ratings-wise.
Good luck, and have fun!

Some good movies to watch that are not R rated and not too scary for Halloween are The Mummy and The Mummy Returns. Read the movie info on The Mummy at http://entertainment.msn.com/movies/movie.aspx?m=101650 and http://entertainment.msn.com/movies/movie.aspx?m=163588 for The Mummy Returns. Both are action movies with PG13 ratings.

Some of the best scary movies are the OLD ones:
Anything Alfred Hitchcock - like "wait until dark" or "the birds" or "rear window" (I think that's what that's called) anyways he made really good scary movies, but like I said they are old so not a lot of music or technology.
If you like sci-fi, "signs" is good
"what lies beneath", "the lady in white" - it's older too, "watcher in the woods" always scared me...i think it's even a disney
anyways, have fun!!

Here is one that I used and I have never been forgiven for the prank I played the next morning.
Get the film Trilogy of Terror with Karen Black.
There is a Zuni doll in the movie that is playing with a knife and terrorizing a woman.
While your guest are still asleep start making that clanking sound with the knife someplace near their bedroom.
It worked really well for me. I don't think I will ever be forgiven for that prank but heck they played the wolfman in the closet on me and came out with a mask on when I was sleeping which freaked me out. (You have to have alot of patience to wait in a closet till someone is asleep).

My grandson dressed like a scarecrow and stood very still in the yard until some unsuspecting trick or treaters came up the sidewalk and then he jumped at them.

you will might desire to purchase a minimum of 10-15 containers of plastic forks! pass to that persons abode and stick each and every of the forks in thier yards. No injury, purely a discomfort pulling all of those forks out. Pumpkin seeds do no longer rather have any impact. yet poultry seeds do! Get alot of birdseeds, throw them into the yards, on the roof, interior the motor vehicle, the backyard, each and every inch of thier yards. they would be stunned whilst they see a flock of birds in thier backyard, and all of that poultry poop would be tricky to scrub. happy pranking!
