More scope for inventiveness. And it's hard to fit garden gnomes into a reply to a serious question.

It can be very tricky for people to know the right kind of answer to give some serious questions, particularly if the questions would generally be considered beyond the expertise of the "average answerer". At the same time, some people put their serious questions on here because they have been dealing with professionals and are looking for a non-professional's feedback.
I think between finding it kind of scary or difficult to try to come up with the right answer and people's maybe not feeling qualified, many people may pass over serious questions.
Also, I'm under the impression many people on this site are here to have a little fun and are not here to be dealing with serious questions.

Do they? Maybe silliness is in the mind of the beholder? Actually, some do seem to be just trying to joke around, and those I usually just ignore, unless I think of something worth saying to them. I generally look for serious questions that I can give some insight on. I dislike the tone of more answers than I do of questions, I think. I give them a bad rating if they really stink, like someone trying to be offensive on purpose.

Maybe people can let their imagination run wild with silly questions, but they have to be quiet serious and they not have the right answer they just pass on it.

Nobody on here is not that really serious, really for me, I'm here just to have fun and see what stupid answer I can come up with. But sometimes I do give a serious answer.

It takes effort and time to give a serious response and people also don't like thinking.

because silly questions take shorter answers and sometimes it is too risky to answer serious questions here

not many smart people like or have the time to answer silly questions and there are more average people than smart i think
