I wouldn't be in such a rush to tell him. Enjoy the friendship as it is for now. This way you get to know more and more about the person. A truly good friendship is much more valuable than a romance even. You want to enjoy as much of this as you can.
Later if the feelings persist, you may want to reveal your intentions. Let it go like this first...you might not have to.

How close of friends are you? Is it a mutual friendship, or does he consider you a 'friend' while you think of him as 'best friend'? If he considers you as a best friend then you might want to take a day or two and study his reactions to you. How does he act? Does he smile at you alot? When you're talking, does he touch you? Do you guys cuddle while watching a movie? Share food when you go out to dinner? Once you have these type of questions answered, if it's yes to alot of them, and you genuinely like him alot, enough that you'd risk the relationship you have changing by telling him, then go for it. Tell him. You'll never know till you tell him, and think of how it could be if you did tell him and he reciprocated? It's worth it if you really like him alot.
