Been using T's since I was your age - of coarse then the P's felt and looked like diapers (almost 20 years ago). But for all it is what you are the most comfortable wearing.

I use both. Pads for the light days and tampons for the heavy days. I am only 15 and I used pads for 2 years after my first period. This is recemended so you canget to know your flow and cycle. This will help to chose the right tampon for you.

If you want to know how to use a tampon here is information

First, buy a brand which has a plastic applicator, not a cardboard one. That makes things much easier. My favourite brand personally is Tampax compax.

Try to find ones which are designed for lighter days when you're just starting out. Yes, you'll probably have to change it more often, but they're very small so easiest to learn with.

When you're going to put one in, you have to relax. Get into a position where it will be easiest - most people suggest sitting on the toilet with your legs wide apart, or putting one foot on the edge of the bath. Personally, I find the easiest way is to crouch down with my knees wide apart.

Take the tampon in your right hand (assuming you're right handed). Spread the labia with your left hand and gently insert the tampon into the vagina. Push it in gently until the fingers of your right hand are touching the skin. That's the most important part - it has to be far enough in or it will be uncomfortable. If you're having trouble getting it in, try pushing slightly to one side or the other, or slightly rotating the tampon as you push it in. If you find it a bit dry going in, you could try using a bit of vaseline on the tip of the tampon.

Once the fingers of your right hand are touching the skin, use your left hand to push the applicator in all the way, as far as it goes - again, if you feel a bit of resistance try pushing slightly to one side or the other, then withdraw the applicator and the tampon should be in place.

If the tampon is in the right place, you won't be able to feel it inside you at all. It's difficult to get the hang of at first, but just keep trying, I promise you it's worth it!!! No more messy pads, no more gushing of blood when you sneeze or move position.......tampons are definitely the way to go!!! Good luck!

Using pads or tampons depends on the girl. Some girls prefer tampons and others pads. You and your mom and or doctor can decide when it would be best for you to start using tampons.

I prefer tampons. While in High School (about 15 and a half years old) I started out with pads. They are uncomfortable and thank gosh I had jeans on because one day I really had to go to the restroom to change and the teacher would not dismiss me because the bell was about to ring. When it finally did, I stood up and felt it gush down my leg. I had to call my dad to come get me to take me home to change. This is when I switched to tampons. Now on heavy days I can wear a panty liner with it in case I need extra protection. There is also no odor with tampons like their is with pads.

I started my period when i was 12, i used pads all through jr high and high school, i didn't like them but i was afraid of using tampons, plus i was a virgin. I couldn't use tampons until about a year and a half ago, when i turned 21, I use regulars and i still have a hard time getting them in....even though i haven't been a virgin since i was 19. So its your call but please read directions very carefully and change them often, because when you do have one in, you feel like your not even on your period. good luck

I've always used pads the only time I've worn tampons is when my period comes during the summer months and I want to go swimming.

i started using tampons.....about 2 years after i satrted my period. i was scared , or else i would have started sooner. i prefer tampons over pads because it is so much better than pad and it is kinda a big felief offf of being in your period. and we know that it sux. but u should use tampons as soon as u are ready. bc u can swin and thats is preety coon and u sont have to sit in blood all day. and when u play sports ar are juping around and having fun u dont ever realize u are on your period. the tss thing is verry rare so do not worry too much about that.
but over all...i love tampons! u dont ever think u are on your period when u wear 1!
try it!!
good luck! hope i hepled!

tampons can be used anytime .... even right at your first period, its ok to use a tampon as long as you feel you're ready for it.
(no. tampons dont mean that you've lost virginity.)
using a tampon for the first time can make you feel somehow weird. its psychological. but after getting use to it, it would be fine.
tampons can be difficult to use anyway. so its better to stick to using pads for now.
if you do decide to use a tampon, make sure read the instructions in the box

tampons...they are easier and cleaner to use...i started using them when i was 12 and it was the second month i got my period i started using tampons...you don't have to worry about TSS (toxic shock syndrome) as long as you change your tampons every 4-6 hours...TSS is rare...when i wore pads i felt like i was wearing a diaper...i won't ever go back to pads...oh and tampons don't cause ovarian cancer..i work for an OB/GYN (female/mommy doctor, they help you with all your female problems) and she says that tampons don't cause ovarian cancer...she uses tampons too and she wouldn't use them if they caused cancer..so that one girl doesn't know what she's talking about

it's a personal choice, I was not comfortable with tampons, plus it just doesn't seem to be a natural thing having it in your wazoo all day. There are some health concerns with tampons as well, some bad stuff in the "cotton" - though you never hear of anyone dying from using a tampon! Good luck, you'll be tired of your monthly "curse" soon enough!!

I most definitely prefer tampons. I remember it was odd to start using them, I was 14 I think, but once it's in there you don't feel it. It's not like a pad at all! No smell, no mess, just have to remember to change it, and know what size to use, light-regular-heavy flow, if you don't you could leak. They aren't for everyone, but you never know until you try.
