Ok, so far nobody seems to understand what virtual memory is and why you are running low on it so I'll explain. When your computer runs out of RAM memory, it improvises by using a part of your hard drive known as the paging file or virtual memory. Virtual memory is typically set to be 2 or 2.5 times your memory. If you are running out of virtual memory than your computer is using an excessive amount of hard drive space to compensate for insufficient RAM.
Quite simply, you need more RAM and your system performance will keep getting worse until you install more RAM. Increasing your virtual memory will only delay the inevitable and keep your computer going slow.

You should buy more RAM only if the massage persists after increasing the Virtual Memory.
When a program is run it needs RAM memory but if there isn't enough of it, the PC starts to use virtual memory. Programs that aren't being used are moved to a space on the HD to free up memory. Since the HD is slower than RAM this can slow your computer down.
To increase it: Right click on "My Computer" > Advanced > "Setup" under performance > Advanced > "Change" under Virtual memory > Change the values to 1.5 to 3 times the amount of RAM you have.

When your computer says it is low on virtual memory, it is really saying you do not have enough RAM to handle all the operations you are trying to run. Windows sets aside part of the hard disk to spool off information when it run out of ram. Of course, in order to access the information, it must then read it back off the hard drive, which is much slower than reading RAM. While you can increase the percentage of hard disk used for virtual memory or close some applications in order work around the problem, the only real solution is to add more system ram.

Go to Control Panel,
click System,
click Advanced Tab,
the Performance Section,
click Settings Tab,
under Performance Options,
click Advanced Tab
You can change page file size there under virtual memory settings in Windows XP Home Edition.
I increase the amount by a few hundred.

the first three answer are all wrong ignore them - the last three are right - you need more RAM -
be careful what you get there are 2 type of Ram - DD and SD RAM and each one also had a type like SD pci133 or 100 or DDr2
so take your PC to a dealer and get them to replace it for $20 on top of the cost of the ram.

When your computer's virtual memory is low, this means that all the temporary memory are used up. You can simply increase the memory by cleaning your temporary download files. You can find this folder in C: program files/download. Make sure you backup all files that you may wish to save, but delete the ones you don't need.
