You can ovulate s early as 8 days after your period and get pregnant. Might have been implantation bleeing that you had or just a period. it happens. as for it being etopic I am sure the doctor told you to come back for another HCG in a couple of days or next week. If your levels do not go up or double I think every other day then there is a chance that you have an etopic pregnancy. You are definately pregnant with HCG levels of 250 since the normal unpregnant woman has levels <5 - So that is under 5 - If Monday your levels are around 1000 you do not have an etopic pregnancy.

"Results in Twin Gestation"
"Quanitative serum hCG tests detect multiple pregnancy approximately 9 weeks earlier than ultrasound. One small study (Jovanovic, 1977) found hCG levels in 15 singleton and 9 twin pregnancies were as follows:

28 64.7 9.4 to 120 64.7 9.5 to 120

Oh and Congrats!!
BTW not everyone ovulates on the 14th day - I was doing fertility treatments and you can ovulate as early as the 7th day. YOu can have long luteal phases which is the time between your ovulation and your period. SOme women have 18 day cycles and others have 60 day cycles and both are normal
Also the reason why the embryo is not being seen is because it is way too small. You will soon at about 5 or 6 weeks start to see something on an ultrasound. Right now its only an embryo go here to see what it looks like http://www.visembryo.com/baby/index.html

an hcg level of about 250 indicates a pregnancy of 2 weeks or less.
It may be ectopic as well seeing as how an ultrasound could not find a fetus and should be able to see a figure by now. The only day that you can become pregnant is 14 days after the first day of your last period. So say you started your period on the 1st. Your only day to get pregnant is the 14th. which if you do your math right, leaves only 14 more days in a 28 day cycle, and that is 2 weeks. So I would bet you are about 2 weeks give or take a day, and that your "supposed" upcoming period...will be missed.

I actually know someone who had her period the whole nine months and had a perfectly healthy baby. That just happends some times. If they said your probably 2-3 weeks then that could of been implantation bleeding (it resembles a regular period sometimes). Just try to relax and not stress yourself out. As things go along the Dr will be able to tell you more.

when the doctor says how many weeks you are, they count from the first day of your last period. So it makes sense to be 2-3 weeks pregnant if you had your period 2 and half weeks ago.

Levels of hCG in pregnancy
Human Chorionic Ganadotropin (hCG) is a hormone that can be detected in the urine and blood of humans. This hormone increases during pregnancy so it is common to measure the rise in level using Home Pregnancy Tests ( or HPTs, which measure hCG levels in the urine) or a hCG Beta test (which measures hCG levels in the blood serum). The hCG Beta is much more sensitive then the Home Pregnancy Test and you can usually get a positive result much earlier with a blood test than with the HPTs.
Usually the reference values for hCG Beta are as follows:
Men: less than 5.0 mIU/ml - Normal
Women: Non -pregnant - less than 5.0 mIU/ml - Negative/normal
*Borderline - Between 5.0 to 25.0 mIU/ml (you could be pregnant)
*Positive - Higher than 25.0 mIU/ml
(*) These are values within the first week and few days after conception.
When you are pregnant the level of hCG increases and usually doubles every two to three days. It then reaches a maximum level by the second or third month of pregnancy, followed by a decrease occurring in the third trimester.
Here are typical hCG Beta values in pregnant women up to 22 days post-retrieval (DPR) or days post-ovulation (DPO).
DPR or DPO Amount of hCG in mIU/ml
10 5 - 50
12 10 - 100
14 20 - 200
16 40 - 400
18 70 - 800
20 140 - 1600
22 180 - 3200
Here are the hCG Beta values given by the number of weeks after ovulation:
after the 1st week and 2 days 5.0 to 50.0 mUI/ml
Between 1st and 2nd week 5.0 to 500.0 mUI/ml
Between 2nd and 3rd week 100.0 to 5,000.0 mUI/ml
Between 3rd and 4th week 500.0 to 10,000.0 mUI/ml
Between 4th and 5th week 1,000.0 to 50,000.0 mUI/ml
Between 5th and 6th week 10,000.0 to 100,000.0 mUI/ml
Between 6th and 8th week 15,000.0 to 200,000.0 mUI/ml
Between 8th and 12th week 10,000.0 to 100,000.0 mUI/ml
Note: The levels of hCG for pregnant women with twins or more are usually higher than the values above, which represent the typical values for just one baby.
If it was a tubal pregnancy no matter how early they could detect it using an ultrasound and also if you had miscarried they would be able to tell that too by an ultrasound. I miscarried at 5 weeks.
Good luck

It's pretty impossible to tell when you became pregnant just by the date of your last period. Some women have regular periods through most or all of their entire pregnancy! I don't know ahat to tell you about ectopic pregnancy, but just keep yourself checked in with your doc.

I would say you are probably around 2-3weeks. That was about the level of my HCG. But also, if you are still bleeding, make sure they keep an eye on your HCG level, and hope it is still going up.; you could be miscarrying....

if your period was lighter than normal, then this "period" was actually discharge that resulted when the fertilized egg burrowed itself in the uterine wall.

It is either pregnant or not, not "how pregnant."
You are pregnant. Sometimes you may have a light period. Good news is that you are smart and are seeing your doctor.
