I think it is. They both cleanse the soul in different but important ways. A good cry makes it possible to let out all the negativity so that you can have a good laugh and enjoy it. I think the best thing a person can do is find a balance between the two.

I prefer to laugh - even a not-so-great laugh is more fun than crying. I think they are both important. "A cheerful heart is good medicine" and who doesn't feel great after a good laugh. But I do think a good cry is more valuable because it opens the way for more laughter.
I think that the soul is designed to finish things much like a computer. My pc freezes up sometimes because too many programs are running, and when they don't get shut down properly it overloads the system. I think my soul works much the same way. Bad stuff happens and I would prefer to numb myself to it or pretend it's not there and move on. But it is there and it keeps me stuck and gets in the way of the good stuff.
A "good cry" to me is one that I choose to allow. I don't enjoy it but I enter into it knowing that it is the only way to finish the bad stuff. It's how I get over it or let go, and it's the only way to get comfort when life goes wrong. There is no comfort in denial just the added pain that comes from trying to avoid pain.
Solomon wrote the verse about a cheerful heart and he also wrote this:
"Sorrow is better than laughter, because a sad face is good for the heart." Ecclesiastes 7:3. I think he was basically saying: "Be sad - get it all out - and then your heart can be happy." A good cry sets me free from the painful junk in life and releases me to enjoy the good things.
I never laughed as much as I do now or felt absolute bliss until I overcame my fear of crying (cleared my history, deleted cookies, emptied cache, defragmented my hard drive and upgraded with new software). I like to laugh. : -)

Oh gracious yes!! :)

It is proven that tears actually have cleansing and emotional effects. People report feeling better after a cry, according to a study by University of Minnesota biochemist, William Frey. Frey discovered the neurotransmitters leucine-enkephalin (an endorphin or natural opiate-like substance for pain relief) and prolactin (released from the pituitary in response to emotional stress) in emotional tears.

In addition, there are spiritual beliefs that crying is beneficial!

"Blessed are you that weep now, for you shall laugh" (Luke 6.21)

So yes......I do believe that crying is as valuable as a good laugh!

Definitely. A good cry is a great way to drain out all your collected negative emotion. A good laugh - the type that brings tears to your eyes and you can't stop laughing is just as cathartic and fills you up with good spirits. Just don't bring about a crying or hysterical laughter jag in a crowded elevator.

If I had to pick I'd go with the laugh but on occasion a good cry might be even more important... sometimes you have to release some of the resevoir just so the dam doesn't get breached

Laughing is definitely the better medicine. A good cry might release the endorphins and calm you for awhile, but the reason for the crying would still be there.

Laughs are more enjoyable than cries (unless they are tears of joy), but crying is a good way of getting your feelings out.
