Atheist believe that it is invoking a deity and thus violating church and state, however.
the concept of separation of church and state does not exist in the founding documents. it was introduced some time later in a letter jefferson wrote to a pastor, assuring him that his faith was safe from govt. intrusion. The first amendment talks not of a separation, but of the restriction of Govt. from either founding (Church of England)or censoring(Communist Russia) any religion. Over time, and by citing the letter rather than the Constitution we now have people overreacting to the mere mention of God(JC's dad in particular) in anything that one might assume to be a Govt. funded site.
I say that because the god mentioned on money is not expressly ID'd as any specific god that it should remain.

Well the United States is based on freedom of the people and religion. So by putting something like in "God we trust" on money contradicts that fact by incoherently forcing the religion of God, the Father ,and the Son on many Americans that do not believe in God.

It should NOT be taken out. But the people who think it should, want a true separation of church & state. They want nothing having to do with religion to have anything to do with government; whether it be currancy, the pledge of allegence or a simple city seal. It's political correctness run amuck! The ACLU is what's wrong with this country.

"in God we trust" should stay on money just like "under God" should stay in the pledge.
This country was formed for religious freedoms(among other freedoms) and I think it should stay.
