Examples: Matt Jones (I think he could be the best possession receiver in a year or two), Drew Bennet, Brian Finnerian, Terry Glen.

They are receivers you are mostly used in the slot (Between the o-line and one of the primary receivers) and put over the middle where linebackers and safties get to. They aren't considered fast in comparios to others, but have much more steady hands. Drop less passes, and, as I've noticed, are taller then most other receivers. Most are 5'9 - 6'0, possession receivers are many times 6'2 - 6'5. That's as much as I came think in any case. Got anymore football questions? You could e-mail me if you want.

It's usually someone who doesn't have a lot of speed or athleticism but is a reliable receiver. When you need a 1st down to maintain possession of the ball, he's the guy you can most likely count on to catch & hang onto the ball and get the first down for you. Keyshawn Johnson is one of the best possession receivers in the game today. While Steve Smith (when healthy) is a game breaker for Carolina, when they need to throw the ball for a first down, Johnson is probably the best target. Joe Jurevcius & Hines Ward are at the top of this category too.

The best possession receiver is Wes Welker. When healthy he has constantly led the NFL in receptions, and ultimately that is what "possession receivers" are. You have Flanker receivers (big play guys), then you have X receivers (who are normally possession guys), also slot is normally a possession guy. Wes Welker plays slot. He is possessionon guy who can also make plays after the catch. However, when you talk about a guy that is great at catching the ball and runninafter-wardsds, you are talking about a guy in Anquan Boldin, who catches everything, then turns into a running back and becomes elusive in the open field. One of the toughesreceiversrs in the NFL is Anquan Boldin. When you talk about Brandon Marshall he is a flankeReceiverer, big play guy. Miles Austin, lets see him play another year, but still not the best possessionon guy. Hines Ward, at the bottom end of his career, but Wes Welker has been better and Anquan. Ochocino is a big play guy, but at the bottom end of his career. He is not a possion guy. So to answer what I think you are asking. The best guy in the NFL that can consistentlyantly catch the ball, then makes plays after the catch...That guy is Anquan Boldin. No one is better at both, then Anquan Boldin.

A Possession reciever just means the WR does not a burner. (fast runner) and is used to make those hard to make catches. Usually they run Routes a lot better and there deal is just to catch the ball. Exp would be Cris Carter.

A Burner WR would be like Joey Galloway. Just is fast.

and a Red Zone Reciever would be someone like Tony G or Randy Moss. (when they get into the red zone they are almost always a target.

They can be more then one You can be a possession reciever and a red zone reciever.

Possession is specifically thou good hands and good catching

Possession recievers are used to "move the sticks". It is the reciever with the best hands on the team. Cris Carter was a possession reciever and Keyshawn (sp?) Johnson is one as well.

I agree with most of the answers already out there, but would add that usually the possession guy will be running the crossing routes (over the middle of the field).
