I am not so sure about the "injury" thing... I mean I guess it all depends on what TYPE of skiing or boarding one is doing, I just like downhill boarding (not pipe stuff) and I think it is safer than skiing , at least for me I feel more stable...and especially since the woman spoke to her kids at J-peak about HELMETS I really had a wake up call and I got a helmet before the next time I went boarding....

I think the popularity depends on where you live. Here in Jersey snowboarders out number skiiers in ridiculous numbers, while out west you tend to see more skiiers than boarders.

For the stability and safety? It depends. With skiing you're always facing foward in a natural position so it kinda feels just like walking/running. Snowboarding you have one thing under you so you have to worry less about control, however you have to turn your body to see the mountain.

Snowboarding has gained a tremendous amount of popularity in the last number of years, most especially since the 2002 Winter Olympics in Salt Lake City when TV ratings for snowboarding events were astronomical.

However, that is not to say skiing is a dying art... quite the contrary. Snowboarding may be more popular with the younger crowds, but skiing's "grace and luxury" will remain ever popular with the older crowds, a fact not quickly dismissed by industry executives (because they know the older folks have $$$).

Me? I'll be 35 next month and I'll continue to SNOWBOARD as long as I can walk!
