Yesterday I accidently slashed the tip of my left index finger with a stanley knife. The cut is right accross the 'pad' of the fingertip, going from just above the crease in the skin, to just under the nail. It has stopped bleeding and has more or less stopped hurting.

Now my index finger is constantly twitching, sometimes qutie violently. The tip of my finger sometimes twitches two inches!

whats wrong?!

Possible nerve damage. Are you up to date on your anti tetanus jabs? If not I suggest you get that done ASAP because it was a "dirty" injury.
If the twitching continues, see a doc and get expert advice.

The brain likes to know where everything is in three dimensional space and sends a small impulse to your muscles just to check. You have cut through a nerve and the brain is confused by the lack of response from past this point and is send bigger impulses. This should reduce and finally stop once the brain "works out" what's happened but if not go to see your doctor

You have damaged the nerve on the finger. If the cut is large get it stiched at hospital or doctors if not just keep it cut clean and bandage it will heal in about 2 weeks.

You must have cut a nerve and this is how your nervous system responds to the "cut" in the "connection" Go see your doctor, and if your finger gets bright red, you experience dizziness or headaches or a fever go to the Emergency Room.
