because ignorance just means you didn't know. like if you got a ticket for driving without a haircut and you didn't know that it was law, it would mean you were ignorant of the law. so if ignorance is bliss, it really means that if you are not aware of something bad, then you are happier.

It's often because all pervasive commercial interests -- whose sole purpose is to promote their own products and hence longevity -- market to our emotions. We are constantly told we are unhappy and that our lives can only be fulfilled by purchasing the latest "must have".
Were we to restrain our expectations of life, and live within our understood -- and appreciated -- knowledge base, many industries would vanish: but we'd be happier!

Television. I've always contended that this medium does more to make people unhappy than anything else. It makes them just aware enough to realize there is so much that they cannot have or do.
