I still think the Democrats have a challenge. Only because they don't have anyone other than H. Clinton that is not extrmely leaning to the left. However, the only way I think the Repubicans can keep the office is by electing Senator John McCain from AZ. to be the next Republican President. I say this because he is totally differnent the Bush plus many Democrates in Washington Love him as if he was one of their own.

When people are dissatisfied with the current administration; which many poles say is going on now, they unfortunately tend to overreact. I'm afraid this will happen in this election. All the good work that this administration has accomplished. will be overshadowed by the failure to catch Bin Laden, and the continuing battle in Iraq.
President Bush knew this was probably not going to resolve itself during his term, but he felt strongly enough about it to go ahead with his plans. Everybody seems to conveniently forget Bush FREED two countries, and helped to set up a strong Democratic government. It is now up to those countries to either pick up the ball and run with it, or to let our soldiers and efforts to die in vain.
I am afraid that, if people lose sight of what our original goal was,and what we have accomplished, they will again overreact and vote anybody who preaches a different policy.
If this happens, Bin Laden will have cost us far more than he has already. Anybody who thinks he has, or has had, nothing to do with Iraq are sadly ignorant. They are the ones who will be voting to change policies.

I can't believe "sounsure9" is reading my mind. It is exactly right that we have only a choice of the lesser of two evils. There is one blip in this, however. Remember that there is a very large minority (thankfully!) that gain immensely from having a "tax and spend" party in office. Government employees - including the educational establishment - make up part of it, and welfare recipients make up another. This can overwhelm any collective wisdom shown by the balance of the American people in any given election. After having voted 23 times in national elections, I have come to the conclusion that it is only dumb luck that puts truly good candidates in office. (I see where Iraq had trouble coming up with a constitution. We could have loaned them ours; we don't seem to be using it much anymore!!)

Good news and bad news. The bad news is that I don't think most of us Americans have really acknowledged to ourselves what a screwup W has been as a president, and so while we're a bit disenchanted with the way things are going I don't think we've wised up enough to actually do any better the next time around.
The good news is that regardless of who runs in '08 they can't be as bad as W. Unfortunately if H.Clinton is able to steamroll her way through the Democratic primaries then we will undoubtably have another Republican president. So it depends on whether the Republican party can field a presidential candidate with a modicom of common sense and an I.Q. above 80. If they nominate a fiscal conservative then we'll get out of Iraq and begin to get our financial house in order. But if they elect another scardy-cat, chicken-little with a Napoleon complex then we'll still be in Iraq in 2012 and our deficits will continue to climb. I guess the silver lining about being bogged down in Iraq is that we can't bother the rest of the world, except for with impotent rhetoric.

Sweetgal... I will say yes! This is not a naive answer... It depends on us! Mandela became president, women got the right to vote, global colonialism was vanquished and the Vietnam War ended. But all these happened because people stood up!! We will have the right kind of leadership if we believe and act!! Don't feel defeated by the terrible news occurring daily. I fact, fewer people are dying in wars as a proportion of global population than ever in recorded history! Yes, its true. Check the facts. But again this is because of global reaction following WWII. Let's not wait for another terrible event to wake us up to what we need to do! Thomas Jefferson said that the price of democracy is constant vigilance! Thank you for asking this important question! By the way, it may in fact take more than a simple majority to remove the current or similar leadership. They are apparently deeply entrenched. Let's start now by working to change the current party in power. --Like most things in life apathy, a sense of hopelessness, and lack of effort generally produce the same result. I don't blame anyone for this. We seem to be in a kind of funk. Let's break out of it. I promise, I will fight harder myself! ...Sincerely...

First we will only have two choices, both of which will be life long political people. ( meaning they will both be some level of crook)
Next the nation is fully split on so many issues, from taxes, war, economony, religious values and the such.
The nation I doubt will every properly agree on any major political event. And with the build up of the net, the dirt and the lies will get to a point that a real honest knowledge will never be known.

No matter who the American people elect, there are those negative people who will try to destroy our Great selection. Propaganda will surface and other countries, will look at him/her closely , with a fine looking glass. Our leaders, will again remind the people to be subject to rulers and authorities, to be obedient, to be ready to do whatever is good, to slander no one, to be peaceable and considerate, and to show true humility tword all men. Everytime we elect a new President, it seems like the American people turn against our Leader. They also have tons of help from Counties who would like to see this the Statue of Liberty, blown down. All Americans need to remain LOYAL to our Leader. Or America will fall down.
