my friend found a very hilarious paper on all these silly reasons on why gay marriage shouldnt be allowed. we decided to make a thousand copies and hand them out to our friends and post them all over our high school campus. there are veyr few openly gay people in my school and i want all the homophobic people to know that we exist. do you think that getting suspended is worth the price of showing my fellow students that not allowing gay marriage is just silly?

If you really believe it's worth it, go for it. There will always be an obstacle in the way but aslong as you know it's for the good, then it's worth every day in detention.

I'm kind of on two minds on this. A suspension would go on your permanent record and could effect things like college acceptance, so it's not a thing to risk lightly. On the other hand, I pulled stuff that might have gotten me expelled, let alone suspended, I deemed it worth the risk. I made such handouts, although on different subjects, and I even used school facilities to make the printouts. Once we even wrote it in crayon on the outdoor assembly plaza, that one really raised a stink. The are no reasonable objections to Gay marriage, in fact it was the norm rather than the exception until the Pope banned it in the 10th century, but you have your whole life ahead of you, there is no reason to blacken your own eye at this point. I respect, even applaud, you desire to spread a worthwhile message, but, in the words of Caesar, "Never fight a battle unless you can gain more from victory than you can lose from defeat".

Your spirit is commendable, and I admire your enthusiam for a worthy cause. But, well, no I don't think its worth it. I think you'll pay too high a price for your beliefs. Our secondary school systems don't encourage this sort of activity no matter how 'just' your cause.

High School isn't the right venue for social civil disobediance campaigns. The point of high school socialization is obediance to authority and peer group normalization.

Basically I think that you should wait till college to express your political point of view. Its more fair to you, and you'll be more effective in the long run.

You see, you're not really covered under 'free speech' at all. You don't have any of the rights of adults, yet. As a minor, you really don't have any rights at all that aren't extended to you by your parents. You are not yet considered a voting citizen, even. You are simply not in a position to defend yourself, no matter what others may say to the contrary, so you shouldn't put yourself in a bad situation.

You shouldn't have done it. Not because I don't support your beliefs, but because there's no point trying to convince idiots of something that they simply cannot comprehend. High school is harsh on a lot of different people, including me, and printing a paper really isn't going to be a saving grace for anyone, but may just incite more hatred among your bigoted peers. It will all end in a number of years, and you need never tolerate the presence of these retards again.

Probably not. Wait til you get to college - at least there you can set up a booth or at least a table and just hand them to people as they walk by. So much easier than taping and stapling to poles - less time consuming than walking your signs all over campus. They'll probably even let you create a giant size poster and thumbtack it to the quad bulletin board. Just think of the clean up time involved of having to go around and take down all the signs.

By this you have outed yourself and my concern is are you safe, from these homophobic individuals. Standing up for what you believe is a bold gesture, however doing it foolishly can be more harmful to you and your fellow students. Next time before acting on impulse, assess the potential backlash before attempting something like this. OK, just really concerned about your safety.

i think thats fantastic if you get suspended then it only proves the point that people are still being homophobic. If they try to suspended you then say it's because i'm gay isn't it. See what happens then.Good on you and Good luck

I applaud you, and YES go for it! If nobody ever spoke up and acted on their feelings, nothing would ever change! Besides are you in the USA? If yes, you are covered under free speach. Does your school post flyers for dances, and elctions? Then you should be able to as well. If not, stand at the door and pass them out! Good for you!

that's ridiculous, you should have sent flyers say why Gay Marriage should be allowed. Those jokes were probably written by a Republican Homophobe and you are just helping his cause.

As long as it isn't defamatory or libelous, it should fall under your right to freedom of speech. You could be charged with littering, though. A thousand copies are way too much.
