An alligator has a broad, rounded snout. Whereas a crocodile has a triangular appearance. That is: salties have a crunched-in face and long teeth, versus the freshie whuch has a ling thin jaw, with a bulbous snout

Alligators have a shorter broader snout and crocs have longer and slender snouts. There's only one type of croc who can live in saltwater and that's a saltwater croc, there is no way that one could live in the other.

alligators are primarily freshwater and crocodiles are primarily saltwater, although they can live in either environment. Alligators also have smoother longer snouts.
