Regular exercise helps a lot.
Swimming is ideal and it's an immediate relief since it gets your blood pumping, but it does not put futher pressure on your joints and veins. Cycling and walking help too.
Do not take baths that are too hot- that can cause spider veins and varicose veins after a day of standing- soak your legs in lukewarm or even cold water w/ special salt for tired legs (or normal body wash with a couple table spoons of salt and some mint tea). Rub lotion with eucaliptus or mint (you can get the generic kind for couple bucks) that you've chilled in the fridge . Works even better when somebody else gives you a foot rub.
Lift your legs (prop them against a wall or with a large pillow) and just chill.
Also, try wearing special socks that improve circulation during the day- they look just like normal socks, are not too expensive (just a little bit more expensive than normal socks), and you can get them in any pharmacy and in most larger drug stores, even in grocery stores. They reduce swelling and improve circulation, so your legs aren't as sore. Also, try walking around a bit during your work day, if you can- just couple minutes will make a difference.

It depends on the kind of pain. If the pain is in your muscles than a hot bath might be the best choice.
If the pain comes from your veins (with swelling ), than you should lift up your legs . If your watching TV just put them up on a chair or the table. You can also shower them with warm and cold water . Half a minute with cold and half a minute with warm water , and this for about 5 minutes.
During work , for preventation , try to make gymnastik with your legs. If you're sitting a long time , just take your shoes off. This will help a lot.

Wish you all the best.

An anti fatigue mat would be very helpful in reducing sore legs, as will proper shoes. I bought the mats for all of my staff and they report that the mats work wonders.

I sang in a choir and we had to stand for long hours too - our choir grasp advised us by no ability to fasten our knees... It rather worked for me! OH! and positioned on gentle shoes... no heels! no longer even somewhat top... you are able to desire to stand flat and sturdy...
